BGC Toronto Kiwanis mourns the death of the 215 children from Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation.
As an organization that emphasizes being a safe and inclusive space for all kids and teens, we are horrified at the news that has come out of the Kamloops community.
This heart-breaking news is a painful reminder of our country’s past. The tragedy of residential schools is not “history”—it is an ongoing trauma for families and communities. And it should be a wake up call for all of us—a reminder that we must create a different future. We must do more.
The month of June is Indigenous History Month in Canada, and BGC Toronto Kiwanis encourages that this month be used as an opportunity to learn and advocate for our Indigenous community.
June is also Pride Month! Today, and every day, BGC Toronto Kiwanis opens our doors and welcomes all kids and teens. We will continue to use our platform and our voice to ensure the LGBTQ2+ community is supported and heard.
